Austin Butler
American actor Austin Butler (born Aug. 17, 1991) is known for his award-winning portrayal of Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 picture “Elvis.” Starring alongside Tom Hanks and Olivia DeJonge, Butler was nominated for an Academy Award for his hip-shaking take on this musical icon and took home a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. Butler landed the role thanks to an emotional self-tape audition of him at the piano singing “Unchained Melody.”
Before “Elvis,” Butler played another real-life person — “Tex” Watson — in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.” However, in Tarantino’s alternate version, Watson doesn’t get to enact the Sharon Tate murderers and is instead killed by Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio). Butler began his career in television on smaller shows such as “The Carrie Diaries” in 2013 and in the fantasy adaptation “The Shannara Chronicles” (2016). He co-starred in Jeff Nichols' 2023 drama "The Bikeriders," which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival.
